The Library of Congress has announced the reauthorization of the Copyright Public Modernization Committee and will accept applications for membership through June 18. The announcement was published in the Federal Register.
Established in 2021 for an initial three-year term, the Copyright Public Modernization Committee was created to enhance communication with external stakeholders about the development of the new Enterprise Copyright System and other technology-related U.S. Copyright Office initiatives. In its first iteration, the committee comprised 13 individuals from across the broader copyright community and held biannual public meetings with hundreds of virtual attendees. Members of the Copyright Public Modernization Committee provide feedback to the Library of Congress on the technology-related aspects of the Copyright Office’s modernization initiative, including both Copyright Office IT systems and the broader Library IT systems that interface with or support Copyright Office operations.
Volunteer members will be expected to participate in at least two virtual or hybrid open forums a year at the member’s own expense. Members of the public interested in participating on the Copyright Public Modernization Committee are asked to submit a current curriculum vitae and a statement of interest addressing the questions identified in the Federal Register no later than June 18, 2024.
Members who served on the previous committee are eligible to reapply.
The committee will be managed by the Library’s Office of the Chief Information Officer, with support from the U.S. Copyright Office and other Library offices.
